Settled on one of the most tranquil and unspoilt stretches of the River Thames, Buscot Weir field is a haven for wildlife with the chance to glimpse kingfishers, otters and more. The sandy coloured stone-built cottages clustered around the southern end of the village, were built to provide better quality housing for estate workers, compared to the earlier brick built dwellings. The cottages were built of limestone rubble with stone slate roofs and large limestone chimney stacks. Buscot Lock is the smallest lock on the River Thames. It was built in 1790 and is the second highest lock on the river.
